The Eggner’s Ferry Bridge is back in the news again, but for all of the right reasons this time.
The state Highway Department says traffic will be reduced to one lane on the bridge from about 8am until noon as crews do work on electrical wiring on the now functioning navigational lights. The purpose is to send barge traffic through span “C” of the bridge while crews do geo-technical drilling near the main channel span “B” in preparation for building a whole new bridge.
That work is expected to take about a month. The Eggner’s Ferry Bridge became famous in January when a cargo vessel went under the wrong span and knocked it completely out, rendering the busy structure closed until Memorial Day weekend.
