Clarksville Police were able to diffuse a volatile situation that could have ended badly.
Around 5:45 today officers responded to a residence located in the 1300 block of Vanessa Drive in reference to a 20-year old man threatening to injure himself.
Police say officers responded to the residence after the 20-year old man sent text messages to a friend telling him that he was holding a gun.
Responding officers reported seeing the male with a handgun walking in and out of the residence.
Due to the sensitive nature of the situation, the residence was surrounded, streets were blocked off and some of the occupants of nearby homes were evacuated for their safety.
The police department’s Tactical Unit and Crisis Negotiators were called to the scene and were able to talk the 20 year old out of the residence without incident.
Police say the man was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for an evaluation.
