State Representative Myron Dossett of Pembroke is joining House Minority Leader Jeff Hoover in asking Governor Steve Beshear to “opt out” of President Barack Obama’s health care law.
Some states are vowing to do just that and Representative Dossett says Kentucky is already having a hard enough time meeting costs of healthcare under the managed care Medicaid program.
There are already approximately 900-thousand Medicaid recipients in Kentucky and Dossett says the additional burden combined with the retirement system problems and other economic hardships will create more issues.
Even with the pleas from Republicans and some Democrats, Representative Dossett says he isn’t optimistic the Governor will lead Kentucky in that direction to opt out.
Minority Leader Hoover said in a morning news conference that the health care legislation could force the commonwealth to consider serious tax increases.
