The winners for the Western Kentucky State Fair’s “Open Division” have been announced.
Marsha Parker of the Christian County Extension Office says Jan and Richard Hornbeak of Old Edwards Mill Road were the overall blue ribbon winners with 56 top prizes.
Dorothy Carlson of Zander Road came in second with 33 blue ribbons and Faye Cornelius and Allie Maternowski of Crofton were third with 28 blue ribbons.
Nanny Croney of Hopkinsville was the grand champion of the boy’s clothing division and Tara Roeder of Herndon was the grand champion in the gardening division.
Ms. Cornelius was grand champion in the home furnishings and flower arrangement divisions, the Hornbeaks took top honor in the canning category and Ms. Carlson did the same in foods.
Keely Doctorman of Hopkinsville was a grand champion in marketable skills.
There were a total of 1,574 exhibits this year, which was a significant increase from last year’s open division. The items remain on display in the “little room” of the convention center through Friday night.
