Several local volunteer fire departments have been called to a very large field fire in the north part of the county.
The Crofton fire department was initially called to the area of 1563 Lewis Road just before 1pm and found a blaze spreading quickly. Units from Mannington, Northwest, Lacy, White Plains and Fairview have all assisted in trying to control the fire.
An ambulance was called to the scene around 3pm to treat a fire-fighter suffering heat exhaustion, though he would be okay. The excessively dry conditions and very hot weather have combined to make the area favorable for spreading wildfires.
The National Weather Service now says all of Christian and Todd County are in a severe drought and that parts of Trigg are in an exceptional drought.
