While the Ward 1 Hopkinsville City Council seat is now vacant under the worst circumstances imaginable, residents of all wards are reminded they can still file to run for office through mid-August.
Democrats and Republicans who want to run for City Council in any ward can still file to do so in the November General Election as an independent through August 14th, according to Christian County Elections Coordinator Melinda Humphries.
Anyone residing in Ward 1 wanting to be considered for an appointment to the post until after the election can now submit an application at City Hall. After ten business days of the opening being posted, Hopkinsville City Counil will interview interested applicants in an open meeting. Each council member will then cast a vote to elect a replacement. The governor could make an appointment if council doesn’t do so within 30 days.
Meanwhile, there’s also still time to file for non-partisan races in Christian County such as city council in Pembroke, Oak Grove, Lafayette and Crofton.
Papers to file for any of the offices can be filled out at the Christian County Courthouse.
