Several local volunteer fire departments responded to a barn fire yesterday afternoon.
The first call went out a little after 3pm of a barn fire at the dead end of Spain Lane, with West Side fire-fighters the first on the scene. Crofton and Northwest Volunteer Fire Departments were soon called for mutual aid, with crews working well into the late afternoon hours in extreme heat.
The American Red Cross was called to the scene to provide water to fire-fighters needing relief from the dangerous combination of heavy gear and temperatures in the mid to upper 90’s. No one was injured in the incident and the barn was reportedly full of hay.
