Following months of discussion and heated debates during a recent Hopkinsville City Council meeting, the city’s proposed amended smoking ban ordinance was sent back for discussion during the August session of the Hopkinsville Committee of the Whole meeting, but that’s not stopping Councilwoman Ann Cherry from doing some research about how the proposed ban will affect local businesses.
Councilwoman Cherry says she wants to gather enough data from local entrepreneurs to local citizens before she decides on whether or not to support a city-wide smoking ban.
According to Christian County Chamber of Commerce President, Carter Hendricks about 67 percent of local businesses would be affected by the proposed smoking ban ordinance as is.
Councilwoman Cherry then went on to describe the purpose of her research and the kinds of questions she will be asking business owners.
The proposed ordinance is up for discussion during the August 23rd Committee of the Whole meeting and is considered to be a controversial topic that needs to be discussed by several council members.
