A well-liked local educator has passed away due to natural causes on Monday.
Funeral services are now set to take place Thursday at 2 p.m. at Maddux Fuqua Funeral Home for Frances Gilliland Thomas of Henderson, formerly of Hopkinsville.
Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery with visitation will be held Thursday from noon until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Thomas was a faculty advisor for Hopkinsville Community College’s popular literary publication, The Round Table, and is credited with founding and establishing Round Table Park, which is located on the campus of HCC.
During her tenure at the local community college, she served many roles, including Chairwoman of the Humanities Division, Chairman of the Fine Arts Festival and was a member of the College Advisory Board.
Thomas was also the recipient of the Chamber of Commerce Award for the development of Round Table Park and received the Great Teacher Award from the University of Kentucky Alumni Association.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Frances G. Thomas Round Table Literary Park Endowment Fund at Hopkinsville Community College.
