The first fireworks injury of the year in Hopkinsville is being investigated as an assault and the suspect is a juvenile.
Hopkinsville Police were called to the Pennyrile Apartments on Means Avenue around 9 last night to investigate after a 10-year old male was injured by a bottle rocket. Witnesses told officers that a 11-year old male suspect had a female light a bottle rocket for him and that he then held the firework about three feet from the victim’s face.
The rocket made impact with the victim about an inch from his eye, causing bruising and burns to his face. The suspect got away on a blue and white bicycle and police were unable to locate him last night.
The incident is being investigated as a second degree assault.
