Even after warning the public about when and where it would be held, Friday afternoon’s “Red Light Blitz” resulted in over two dozen citations Friday afternoon at a busy intersection.
Hopkinsville Police issued a news release broadcast and published by multiple media outlets that they would be placing four extra officers at North Drive and West 7th between 3 and 6pm Friday afternoon looking for any one violating traffic laws.
Most motorists must have forgot or never heard, because no fewer than 27 citations resulted from the operation. Most of the tickets were for seat belt violations, though there were several for children not being properly restrained. At least two drivers were cited for having their windows tinted too dark. A few of the drivers cited could also not provide proof of insurance.
Police have placed an extra focus on West 7th over the last year or so after studies showed it has a inordinate amount of wrecks and wrecks with injury.
