Annie Wheeler speaks to Todd school board Thursday evening/photo by Adam May
The first ever Todd County Central High School student to graduate from the prestigious Gatton Academy in Bowling Green says she had opportunities there most students could only dream about.
The Gatton Academy is on the campus of Western Kentucky University and allows the very elite of Kentucky high school students to take college courses while specializing in a specific area of math or science.
Speaking to the Todd County School Board last night, Annie Wheeler said she specialized in bio-medical research and had the opportunity to do some of her learning outside of the country free of charge.
The school board helped Ms. Wheeler with the cost of her books and she said that helped a great deal. She also asked the board to continue urging students to apply for admission to Gatton.
Students who graduate from the Gatton Academy finish with their high school diploma and usually finish as college juniors.
