The 7th annual Hopkinsville Kiwanis Club Soap Box Derby is just around the corner and momentum is already picking up prior to the race.
A banquet was held at the James E. Bruce Convention Center tonight to recognize the hard-work of the young racers in creating their individual race cars.
Soap Box Co-Director Chuck Cummins says the banquet is important because racers are recognized for their efforts in building their own cars and helps pump them up for the derby.
Mr. Cummings says the soap box derby has become an annual tradition with many local families with school aged children.
This year’s soap box derby is scheduled to take place this Saturday on Bethel Street and will once again feature an adult oil can race with Senator Joey Pendleton and 3rd District State Senator candidate, Whitney Westerfield expected to compete against each other.
