All but one volunteer fire department that serves an area of Christian County now collects its fire dues via property tax bills after action by Fiscal Court earlier this week.
The Cerulean Volunteer Fire department is based out of Trigg County, but is tasked to serve properties in Trigg, Christian and Caldwell Counties. The Cerulean chief came to a fiscal court meeting last year asking for her department to be offered automatic billing just as the other departments in Christian County were allowed to do for the first time.
After Cerulean joined the local fire association and some logistics were worked out, Fiscal Court approved placing dues on property tax bills this year to residents served by Cerulean —as described by Judge-Executive Steve Tribble.
Judge Tribble says court also gave fire departments an extra 15 days to refund residents who go to the Sheriff’s Office and request their dues back.
Square Deal is now the only volunteer fire department in Christian County not receiving fire dues through property tax bills.
