Hundreds of supporters and cancer survivors attended the 20th annual Relay for Life fundraiser that kicked-off tonight and will conclude Saturday morning.
Relay for Life Chair Ashley Johnson says she was astounded to see how many supporters and cancer survivors showed up for the fundraiser.
Ms. Johnson says monies that are raised during the event will go towards research in finding a cure for cancer and to assist local families battling an illness.
Gates opened at 6 p.m. and already hundreds of residents were making their rounds on the track field in honor of a loved one who lost their battle with cancer.
Ms. Johnson says prior to tonight's event, $96,000 was raised and that she was more than confident that this year's fundraising goal of $130,000 will be met, thanks to generous donations.
Officials say the relay is the grand-finale of a year-long effort of fundraising to help find a cure for cancer.
