Memorial Day weekend was tragic on Kentucky roadways this year, with preliminary numbers showing 14 people died in 11 separate crashes.
Even more tragic, three double-fatality wrecks in Harrison, Scott and Wayne Counties involved the suspected use of alcohol.
None of the wrecks happened in the Pennyrile or Purchase regions, though western Kentucky counties had several wrecks with serious injury over the weekend.
Seven of the eight victims in motor vehicles were not wearing seat belts and four of six victims on motorcycles were not wearing helmets.
Through Monday, 285 people had lost their lives on Kentucky roadways—which was 39 more than the number from a year ago.
