The outcome could have been much worse after an argument at a Hopkinsville bar last night, which ended with a local man going to jail on gun charges.
Hopkinsville Police were conducting a foot patrol downtown just before midnight, when a woman ran out of Brewsters on South Main and said there was a fight and that a man had a gun.
Officers were able to stop the dispute before it became physical, but allege they did find a handgun on 24-year old Jarvis Carneal of Hopkinsville. The arrest card says Carneal was obviously intoxicated and that he showed the gun to the other people in the bar during the dispute.
Carneal was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and being drunk in public.
