It was clear during tonight’s Hopkinsville Committee of the Whole meeting that council members shared different views when it came to Mayor Dan Kemp’s proposed smoking ban ordinance.
Councilman Paul Henson says he supports the idea of having a city-wide smoke free ordinance, but did not support the proposed ordinance that was presented and amended tonight, while several council members including Peggy Everett and Charlie Henderson saying they owe it to their constituents to discuss and vote on a controversial matter.
Following hours of discussion, council members forwarded a proposed amended smoke-free ordinance for council to review.
Committee Chairman Phillip Brooks gave a recap of what council members will be reviewing in the coming weeks, following a change to Mayor Kemp’s original proposed ordinance.
Chairman Brooks gave highlighted the amendments made to the proposed operational budget.
