Eggners Ferry Bridge is expected to reopen Friday afternoon– a full 2 ½ days ahead of schedule.
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Spokesman Keith Todd says crews with Hall Contracting of Kentucky Inc. completed emergency repairs on the bridge earlier than anticipated and the bridge is expected to reopen to traffic Friday at 1 p.m.
The bridge has been closed since January 26th after a 322-foot span was knocked off by a large cargo ship, the Delta Mariner.
Todd says state transportation crews will be working late tonight to finalize preparations to reopen the 80-year old bridge.
Hall Contracting was awarded a $7 million, emergency contract to repair and reopen the bridge by Sunday, May 27th.
Transportation officials say before Eggners Ferry Bridge closed, a 2009 traffic count showed over 2,600 vehicles per day crossed the bridge.
