Officials with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet say repairs continue to be on track for Eggners Ferry Bridge to reopen by Memorial Day weekend.
KYTC Spokesman Keith Todd says crews with Hall Contracting worked on the replacement span deck and installed guardrails along the new driving surface and removed some of the wooden forms used to pour the decking and curbs.
Testing of samples taken during the concrete pour reportedly have shown all concrete used for the deck to exceed state strength specifications.
State bridge inspectors are expected to conduct a detailed inspection of the new span on Thursday.
Eggners Ferry Bridge has been closed off to traffic since January 26th after a 322-foot span of the bridge was knocked off by an 8200 ton cargo ship.
Officials say in addition to serving as the western entrance to The Land Between The
Lakes National Recreation Area, Eggners Ferry Bridge provides a key transportation link for area commuters.
