Organizers with the 14th annual Take Kids Fishing Day are inviting the public to witness officials with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources stock Little River and the lake with hundreds of fish in preparation of the event.
Officials say “Big Jeff,” the giant catfish that’s the main target of young fisherman each year will also be released Thursday.
RC&D Board member, Matt Snorton says the event is a lot of fun for the entire family.
Officials say “Big Jeff” will make his plunge into North Fork Little River at 1 p.m. on Thursday before hundreds of area children will swarm Jeffers’ Bend Environmental Center and Botanical Garden on Saturday morning.
Snorton says Take Kids Fishing Day is a great way for children who are not exposed to the outdoors a lot to appreciate nature.
“Big Jeff” has never been caught and organizers are challenging local youngsters to take their best shot at catching him Saturday starting at 9 a.m. at Jeffers Bend.
