Rev. Lisa Lewis-Balboa
While Hopkinsville and other communities are set to soon consider smoke-free ordinances for restaurants and other public places, Todd County minister asked the Fiscal Court there to do the same thing this morning.
The Reverend Lisa Lewis-Balboa represented the Todd County Laity and Ministers Alliance and said a recent survey showed a majority of residents support going smoke free in all public places and an even greater majority are for going smoke free in restaurants.
Ms. Balboa said her organization believes passing a smoke free ordinance would benefit the health of all Todd County residents.
Magistrates took no action on the matter, with Todd County Judge Executive Darryl Greenfield saying after the meeting that he thinks there is significant opposition to the idea.
In other action, court heard from Todd County Jailer Greg Allen, who submitted a budget request for the next fiscal year amounting to a little less than 1.9 million dollars.
Magistrates also approved a $1,000 donation to the 2012 Todd County Project Graduation event, with three Todd Central seniors showing up to ask for the annual donation.
