A Hopkinsville man accused of assaulting a police officer and getting away early this year has been found and taken into custody.
Hopkinsville Police arrested 22-year old Sidney Jackson just after 3pm Sunday on West 7th Street. The warrant says that on January 17th, Jackson was being questioned about an air conditioner burglary that happened on Bentley Street.
The investigating officer asked Jackson for permission to search his person for any weapons, which he denied. Jackson then reportedly put his hands to his waist.
The officer than attempted to frisk Jackson and a struggle ensued, with the suspect then allegedly striking the officer in the chest. A mirror was broken off the cruiser and Jackson was able to squirm out of his shirt and fled on foot and ultimately got away.
The warrant alleges that a handgun containing illegal hollow-point ammunition was found in Jackson’s clothes.
Jackson is charged with 3rd degree assault, criminal mischief, fleeing from police, receiving stolen property and gun charges.
