Attorney General Jack Conway is asking officials in local communities damaged by recent severe weather to use his Disaster Fraud Task Force and Contractor Registration program to prevent storm victims to fall prey to fly-by-night contractors.
Conway was quoted as saying the program was established to alert residents about possible scams and he says crimes against disaster victims will not be tolerated in the state.
The Disaster Fraud Task Force reportedly assists communities by creating a contractor registration program to prevent fraudulent contracting.
According to Attorney General Jack Conway, the program also prevents fraudulent contracting by requiring contractors to provide information about their company and display registration certificates at work sites.
Area residents are urged to report suspicious contractors or price gouging by calling the Attorney General’s Disaster Fraud Hotline at 1-855-450-5645.
