When disaster strikes, do you know what to do?
State and local officials are urging residents to have a plan and prepare for a natural disaster, especially since severe weather swept through this region this week which destroyed or damaged several homes in western Kentucky.
The Pennyrile Regional Citizen Corps Council is committed to saving lives and recently
joined Governor Beshear to officially proclaim March 2012 as Severe Storms Awareness Month.
Regional Operations Officer with PRCCC Frank Brown says awareness is key in surviving a natural disaster and he encourages residents to have a plan just in case their family is affected by severe weather and he recommends local citizens to create a kit filled with essential items sustain themselves if emergency or medical crews are not readily available.
Brown adds that in the event of a power outage something as simple as having a flashlight, radio and extra batteries available can make you and your family more comfortable during these times.
