A school bus driver who was reportedly carrying multiple Mennonite passengers was cited yesterday for leaving the scene of an accident.
Hopkinsville Police say 58-year old Michael Hamilton of Mortons Gap was driving west on Cayce Avenue and passed the vehicle of 50-year old Wayne Hawthorne of Hopkinsville that was stopped in the roadway.
As result, police say the privately owned school bus hit Hawthorne’s vehicle and caused damages to the left front fender and broke off a side view mirror.
Hamilton reportedly told police he thought he may have hit Hawthorne’s vehicle, but was upset that his vehicle was stopped in the road so he drove off.
Police say the 35 school aged children were not injured in the wreck and the driver of the bus was cited to appear in court for failing to stop and render aid or provide vehicle insurance information to the victim.
