The two local former volunteer fire fighters accused of embezzling money for personal use had indictments returned against them today by the Christian County Grand Jury.
Former West Side Chief 30-year old James Douglass of 13495 Dawson Springs Road, Crofton and his brother—former Deputy Chief 28-year old Jerry G. Douglass, Jr. of 13255 Dawson Springs Road Hopkinsville—are both charged with theft.
James Douglass is also charged with abuse of the public trust in addition to theft over 10 thousand dollars, while Jerry is charged only with theft under 10 thousand dollars.
The pair is accused of using funds collected by the department to make personal purchases and of writing checks to themselves to collect cash. Numerous instances are noted in the court file, including one time when James allegedly purchased a vehicle for himself with department money.
In other action, the grand jury returned an indictment against 36-year old Rico Cavanaugh of Cerulean Rd., Cadiz on 1st degree robbery charges for allegedly holding up a local Kangaroo Mart on November 27th.
23-year old Richard Brown of the Pennyrile Apartments was indicted on theft charges for allegedly embezzling $2,900 from a Hopkinsville McDonalds while an employee there.
