After several mis-trials in civilian court, the fate of a former Fort Campbell soldier charged with murdering his estranged wife and her former mother-in-law is now in the hands of military justice.
Brent Burke will be facing a general court-martial next Monday and military officials say the court martial is expected to last an entire week.
As previously reported by Lite 98.7, Burke is charged with violating several sections of the Uniform Code of Military Justice by killing Tracy Burke and Karen Comer inside Comer’s Rineyville residence on September 11th 2007.
In addition to the murder charges, Burke is also charged with committing burglary for allegedly unlawfully entering the residence of Karen Comer.
Burke was reportedly tried four times in civilian court, where two of the trials ended in mistrials and the other two trials ended in hung juries.
The former Sergeant remains in pre-trial confinement and if he is convicted of the charges he faces death or life in prison.
