Alcohol was allegedly a factor in a single-vehicle accident in Hopkins County Monday evening that injured a passenger.
The incident happened around 5:30, according to a news release from Kentucky State Police, which says 47-year old Violet Rickard of Madisonville lost traction on ice on North Main Street in Madisonville and ran into a ditch.
Her vehicle overturned, injuring her son, 27-year old Joshua Rickard of Earlington. Another passenger was not hurt. Police determined Ms. Rickard was allegedly impaired and arrested her on charges of DUI, possession of an open container and other traffic violations.
Joshua Rickard was treated and released from Baptist Health and was then served with outstanding warrants. The mother and son were both lodged in the Hopkins County Jail.
