Christian County has received grant funding to reimburse costs of cleaning up illegal dumps.
Pennyrile Area Development District Community Development Specialist Ashley Johnson says Christian County applied for the 2014 Illegal Open Dump Remediation Grant Program in October and learned earlier this week it had received just under $5,5000.
The money will be used to reimburse the county for cleaning up illegal dumps on Carl Cemetery Road, Butler Road and Old Madisonville Road. Ms. Johnson says it was important to clean up the dumps as quickly as possible and the Division of Waste Management allowed the county to go ahead with that process before the announcement was made on the grant.
Christian County was required to match 25-percent of the grant, but the match was made through in-kind work.
