Clarksville Police say the victim and suspect in a fatal Saturday morning hit and run accident on Tylertown Road were both soldiers.
A news release says 21-year old Private First Class Austin McReynolds of Fort Campbell was the man found deceased alongside Tylertown Road around 5:10 Saturday morning by an individual walking to work near Roscommon Way.
Investigators believe the incident happened between 2:30 and 2:45 Saturday morning. A news release says McReynolds had been at a bar on Tylertown Road and was walking east when he was hit by a vehicle driven by 26-year old Captain David Elliott of Fort Benning, Georgia.
Police say they determined Elliott to be a suspect after canvassing the area and finding a vehicle with fresh damage to the front end that would be consistent with hitting a pedestrian.
Captain Elliott allegedly admitted to drinking alcohol at the same bar McReynolds had been at, but said he had hit a deer after leaving.
Elliott was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide, his second DUI in the last five years, leaving the scene of an accident and driving on a suspended license. He is lodged in the Montgomery County Jail without bond.
