Fifty local families are counting on a merrier Christmas because of a Hopkinsville Fire Department charitable tradition and fire-fighters are hoping the community will help make it happen again.
Christmas for Kids is a program where families apply for assistance through the Salvation Army and the fire department provides the age appropriate toys and gifts. Organizer and Hopkinsville Fire Inspector Cecelia Cloos says those 50 families account for over 100 children of all ages needing gifts.
Inspector Cloos says gifts for younger and older girls and boys are being accepted at each fire station through December 20.
If you don't like to shop, you can also drop off a cash donation at a fire station for the Christmas for Kids program. A majority of the toys will be received by the children Saturday, December 21.
