The Kentucky Fire Commission is encouraging area families to think about safety as they celebrate Halloween.
Kentucky Fire Commission Executive Director Ronnie Day is offering these simple tips when dressing up and collecting candy.
Day says costumes should be bright and reflective and flame resistant and all walkers should have their own flashlight.
Day is also encouraging adults to be careful with candles and open flames near doors and to sweep leaves from sidewalks and pathways and to restrain any pets to avoid injuries to trick or treaters.
Area parents are also reminded to accompany young children and to only go to homes with a porch light on and never enter a home or car for a treat.
Day is also encouraging parents to make sure treats are commercially wrapped, unspoiled and have no signs of possible tampering.
