Christian County Chamber of Commerce President, Carter Hendricks has been named as the 2013 City of Hopkinsville Christmas Parade Grand Marshal.
Hendricks says he was asked several months ago and is honored to be a part of this year’s parade.
Hendricks says he hopes area residents will brave the cold and witness one of the city’s greatest traditions.
The Christmas parade is scheduled to take place Saturday, December 7th
at 10 a.m. and will follow the usual route from Glass Avenue, South on Main Street to Sixteenth Street.
The theme of this year’s parade is Peace on Earth with local organizations, businesses and residents encouraged to participate in a float contest.
Officials say all competing floats will be judged in four different areas with $300 to be presented to the Spirit and Artistic Decoration Award winners and $400 given to the winner of the Grand Marshal Award.
All parade entries are asked to donate a new, unwrapped toy when they submit their entry form, which will be given to the Hopkinsville Jaycees for their Jaycee’s annual underprivileged children’s Christmas party.
Any group, club, church, school business or individual interested in participating in the float contest are urged to contact the City of Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Department at 270-887-4290.
