Governor Steve Beshear has directed that all flags at state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Wednesday, in honor of a Fort Knox soldier, who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
According to the Department of Defense, 27-year old Specialist Angel L. Lopez of Parma, Ohio, died October 5th in Afghanistan from wounds he suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire.
Specialist Lopez was assigned to the 201st Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Knox.
Funeral services for Specialist Lopez will be held on Wednesday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Cleveland, Ohio with interment to follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio.
