What would have been a routine traffic stop ended with an arrest after a short chase Tuesday night.
Hopkinsville Police Officer Fernando Rodriguez was watching a car driven by 18-year old Kevonte Poindexter on South Vine Street of Hopkinsville around 7:30 after Poindexter was seen allegedly driving down the middle of the road.
The report says Poindexter pulled into a parking lot, but then proceeded onto West Second Street at a high rate of speed. That's when Officer Rodriguez activated his lights and siren, following Poindexter to Howell Street, where he would eventually stop after allegedly exceeding the speed limit by 25 miles per hours.
Poindexter was charged with reckless driving, fleeing or evading police and wanton endangerment. Police say Poindexter had two 13-year old passengers, who had been pleading with him to stop when the incident began.
