Seven cases of salmonella are confirmed in Hopkins County.
Health officials report the death of one person and four are hospitalized, while trying to see if they are connected. WFIE TV in Evansville identified the man who died as 61-year old Steve Davis of Hanson. Some of the other cases are also reportedly members of Davis' family.
Officials are unsure if the outbreak is caused by contaminated food or if it is animal related. The investigation could take several weeks.
Salmonella related problems begin 12 hours after a person becomes infected. Symptoms include diarrhea, fever, headache, and abdominal cramps. Anyone suffering these conditions should contact their doctor.
