Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway today was joined by officials with the Prosecutors Advisory Council, the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators and the parents of two young overdose victims to announce the creation of two $1500 scholarships.
The scholarships will be offered this school year to graduating high school students impacted by prescription drug abuse.
The scholarships are made possible thanks to the generosity of the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators and private donations.
Attorney General Conway says he refuses to lose another generation to prescription drug abuse and he hopes this money will help two young people get a fresh start and a chance at completing their college education.
The scholarships are in memory of 19-year-old Sarah Shay of Morehead and 24-year-old Michael Donta of Ashland.
Completed scholarship applications must be submitted by January 15, 2014 and recipients will be announced by the Office of the Attorney General, in conjunction with in May of 2014.
