Lafayette Road was closed for a little over an hour this morning after an anhydrous ammonia leak near Herndon.
The road was closed from Herndon to Thomas-Jago Road from a little after 5:30 until about 6:45. There was a cloud of the harmful chemical in the air near the Agri-Chem plant in the 11000 block of Lafayette Road and there was an unconfirmed report of at least one local resident who may have sought medical treatment for breathing difficulties.
The Christian County Sheriff's Department is investigating any possible foul play in connection with the incident. Anhydrous ammonia is meant to be used for farming, but it is also an ingredient in methamphetamine.
