The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was called to Hopkinsville to assist in investigating a fire at a local auto-body shop.
ATF investigators were assisting the Hopkinsville Fire Department at North Side Paint and Auto Shop at 1027 North Main, which is a little south of Hilltop Drive. The blaze broke out around 3:10 Friday morning and fire-fighters from four stations responded and found the building already fully involved.
The official fire department report says $50,000 worth of damage was done to the structure and $10,000 to contents. The fire was primarily in the roof and office area of the building, but eventually moved to the two bays and a tire room.
Hopkinsville Fire Department Captain Elmer Greene says it's still too early to determine what started the fire. He says its not extremely rare for the department to contact another agency to help investigate.
Melvin Brown of Hopkinsville is listed as the owner of the business on the report. No one was injured and fire-fighters spent much of the morning dousing hot spots that continued to flare up after part of the building's roof collapsed.
