A medical condition may have played a part in a single-vehicle wreck on Country Club Lane Saturday morning that sent a local man to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
The Hopkinsville Police Report from Officer Chris Madley says 51-year old William Simpson of Hopkinsville had been eastbound around 10 minutes after 8, when he ran off the road and into the front yard at 514 Country Club.
Simpson's vehicle ran through some shrubs and went into the yard at 518 Country Club, where it hit a large tree. He was cut from the wreckage by the Hopkinsville Fire Department. Simpson was taken by ambulance to an Air Evac helicopter which landed in front of the Fort Campbell Boulevard Dollar General, and then flown to Vanderbilt.
Simpson's girlfriend told police he is diabetic and has recently been having severe problems with his blood sugar.
