Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Jamie Comer is commemorating National Farmers Market Week by encouraging residents to buy local produce.
Comer stated state officials expect farmers’ market sales to reach $11.5 million this year.
National Farmers’ Market Week continues through Saturday and Comer says he hopes every Kentuckian will join him and visit a farmers’ market this week and throughout the market’s season.
State officials say farmers’ markets have popped up all across the state in recent years with 62 markets housed in permanent structures with funding approved for six more, compared to 34 in 2006.
