Railroad crossings in downtown Hopkinsville were closed for a significant amount of time late last night and early this morning after an SUV ran into a moving train.
Hopkinsville Police Corporal Martin Lopez says the driver of the white SUV was gone when officers arrived. The first call came in around 11:57 that the vehicle had hit the train at East 7th and Railroad, causing the vehicle to spin on impact.
The train stopped to allow police to investigate the crash scene, but Corporal Lopez said there was no derailment or any other significant damage to it. The injury status of the driver isn't known and the investigation continues.
The train moved on around 12:45, allowing traffic to flow again.
