The city of Hopkinsville is considered to be Kentucky’s fastest growing city of those larger than 1,100 people according to U.S. Census Bureau population estimates.
Hopkinsville saw a 3.05 percent population growth from July 2011 and July 2012 with Mayor Dan Kemp saying he was extremely pleased to see the city's continued growth with latest reports placing the population at just under 33,000.
According to the data, this year's gain of 975 people is the city's largest since 2010 and Hopkinsville has seen a 4.40 percent overall growth since the census of that year.
Mayor Kemp added he attributed the progress to the continued collaborative efforts of local government and groups like the christian county chamber of commerce and the south west kentucky economic development council.
The latest census data also indicates Hopkinsville is outpacing all but two of Kentucky’s largest cities in keeping and attracting new residents.
