At least 5,000 coal mining jobs in Kentucky have been lost in recent months and State Representative Brent Yonts of Greenville is calling on members of Congress to find common sense ways to protect the environment and the coal mining industry.
Representative Yonts says most of those jobs lost have been in eastern Kentucky, but the impact has been felt everywhere. He voiced his frustration with Congress, which he believes could make changes to the Clean Air Act to allow mines to operate under less restrictions while not harming the environment.
Yonts says more jobs will be lost if changes aren't made to the Clean Air Act soon.
In addition to representing a portion of north Christian County, Yonts represents Muhlenberg and portions of Hopkins County, were coal mining is extremely important.
