Connecting with innovative minds has never been easier. Entrepreneurs - from 'thinking of a start-up' to a 'already in business' - are all encouraged to attend the START-UP SLAM! event on Monday, May 20, 2013, from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the Pennyrile Area Development District (PADD) office located at 300 Hammond Drive, Hopkinsville. START-UP SLAM! is a networking platform aspiring to make your entrepreneurial endeavor a success by sharing ideas and stories on what works and what doesn't with other entrepreneurs throughout the region. What better way to get helpful insight, solve a problem and find the right people, resources or tools that is essential to the growth of your start-up than from others who have been there and done that! The event is being sponsored by Murray State University Regional Business & Innovation Center, Christian County Chamber of Commerce, Pennyrile and Purchase Area Development Districts and West Kentucky Workforce Board. Applications are now available for the 2013-2014 Leadership Hopkinsville-Christian County class. Leadership Hopkinsville-Christian County seeks to identify and cultivate the leadership potential within the local community. The program brings together individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences, who have a demonstrated talent and commitment for leadership, and who are interested in helping direct the future of Hopkinsville and Christian County. This year marks the Sesquicentennial of the Civil War. The Jefferson Davis State Historic Site will mark this event with the 205th Birthday Commemoration of Jefferson Davis, first and only president of the Confederate States of America….May 31st – June 2nd. The park will have two battle re-enactments, food, re-enactors representing Civil War figures, the Miss Confederacy Pageant for young ladies 3years old to 21 years old
(get your Application at the park), a Civil War Flag display a Field Surgeon, a Field Hospital, and a Re-enactors' Ball, featuring the St. Claire Family, out of Alabama. All events are free, except for monument/museum tours. The cost for the tours is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and military personnel and $3 for children 12 and under. Jefferson Davis is known for his service as the president of the Confederate States of America, during America's "Civil War or the War of Northern Aggression." He was also a West Point graduate, U.S. Congressman, U. S. Senator and Secretary of War. Jefferson Davis State Historic Site is located just off Highway 68/80 in Fairview, Ky. 15th Annual Take Kids Fishing Day will be May 25th held at Jeffers' Bend Environmental Center and Botanical Gardens located on Metcalfe Lane from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon for ages 3 to 15 years of age. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Prizes and awards will be presented from Noon to 1:00 PM. The prizes will include 22 new bicycles, fishing equipment, outdoor chairs and more. Admission is $2.00 in advance, $3.00 the day of the event and $1.00 of admission for all military |
